About OnToCollege

In 1991, after graduating from Stanford University, John Baylor began tutoring students for the SAT®  while pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles. Brief careers in banking, acting, and sportscasting convinced him that his true passion was teaching, leading to the birth of John Baylor Prep.

After two decades of growth (and a name change), OnToCollege now has a full team of trusted and knowledgeable teachers and counselors helping high school students improve their test scores, scholarships, and college choices.

Tens of thousands of students have taken our proven, innovative, and fun ACT® and SAT/PSAT® online and in-person courses. John’s entertainment background ensures that students are engaged—a critical component of effective test prep.

Used by more than 800 high schools in 24 states, OnToCollege online classes routinely increase an entire high school’s ACT average score 1-3 points and SAT average score 50-150 points.

Besides preparing thousands of students annually for these tests, OnToCollege added a suite of College Counseling Tools in 2016, providing all the assistance students need to find their best-fit college at the lowest price.

In 2019, OnToCollege added the Middle School Matters program so that younger students can learn that college can be both transformative and affordable.

Focused on creating college graduates with minimal debt.

At OnToCollege, our mission is to help schools and families create two- and four-year college graduates with minimal debt.

A two- or four-year college degree is increasingly a prerequisite for good-paying jobs. In the face of increased automation and globalization, a degree dramatically improves a young person’s job opportunities. Yet only 42 percent of Americans have either a two- or four-year college degree.

And the likelihood of attaining a degree plummets when incomes are lower. Currently 80 percent of children from top economic quartile families graduate from college, while only 11 percent of children from bottom economic quartile families graduate from college—a 7.5 to 1 ratio.

While having an associate or bachelor degree has become more critical, earning either has become more expensive. High student loan debt marginalizes the graduate’s ability to unleash the skills and knowledge from their degree.

At OnToCollege, we believe all students deserve the right college at the right price.
